Sabattus Seniors to meet

SABATTUS — The Sabattus Seniors will meet Thursday, Nov. 3, at Maxwell Gill Hall. The meal will be meatloaf, and reservations are required by contacting Pauline at 207-375-4037 by Wednesday, Oct. 26.

Those attending the meeting will sign up for the Christmas Party to be held in December at Pelletier Hall. The price will be $12, which is due upon sign-up. Those who do not attend the lunch may contact Pauline and mail payment.

Events for Sabattus Seniors will not be held if Sabattus schools are canceled.

Neighborhood Watch Group to meet

AUBURN — The Neighborhood Watch Group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at Sixth Street Congregational Church.

The entire neighborhood is welcome. 

The event will be sponsored by the Auburn Police Department. 

Legion hosting Halloween dance

MECHANIC FALLS — A Halloween dance with prizes for costumes will take place from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Oct. 29, at Post 150, American Legion, 41 Elm St.

Admission is $10 per person.

‘A Tale of Two Brothers’

AUBURN — Charles Dickens’ stories are known the world over and have been captivating readers, moviegoers, and theater lovers for over 170 years. His inspirations came from all classes of London society, from historical and political events, and from his own life experiences.

Lillian Nayder, professor of English at Bates College, will speak on and lead a discussion titled A Tale of Two Cities as a Tale of Two Brothers, focusing on the divorce trial of Dickens’ brother Fred as a source for the novel set during the times of incredible violence, vengeance and turbulence of the French Revolution.

Nayder is a noted specialist on Dickens and Victorian fiction, and is an acclaimed author and speaker on these subjects.

The Pickwick Club, sponsored by the Auburn Library, will present Nayder from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29. Admission is free.
