AUBURN — The next president of the United States will be Donald J. Trump, according to a mock election held at Edward Little High School on Friday.
At the mock election, Trump garnered 239 votes, just enough to send Hillary Clinton packing. Hillary received 225 votes from the EL student body, which is still much better than Gary Johnson’s 79 votes and Jill Stein’s 26.
Bernie Sanders garnered a few write-in votes, as did a handful of EL teachers.
The mock elections, designed to get teenagers engaged in the political process, have successfully predicted the future before. In 2012, the EL student body picked Barack Obama for president, Angus King for U.S. senator and said yes to gay marriage.
What else did the Auburn teens decide on Friday?
The District 2 congressional race goes to Emily Ann Cain, who got 287 votes to defeat Bruce Poliquin with 265 votes.
In referendum questions, which involve matters such as gun rights, income taxes, marijuana and the minimum wage, the students voted yes across the board.
