1932 – 2016

AUBURN — Joseph “Herm” Dionne, 84, a lifelong resident of Lewiston, passed away peacefully in his sleep Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn.

He was born in Frenchville, on April 19, 1932, the son of Abraham and Mary Dionne. He graduated from Lewiston High School in 1949, then joined the U.S. Air Force and served his country during the Korean War. He married his soul mate, Theresa Morin, in May 1954, and together they traveled from base to base, including Texas and California.

Upon leaving the service, he worked for A&P grocer and served on the Lewiston police force before embarking on his 33-year career with State Farm Insurance. Herm was also an active member of Holy Cross parish, serving on the school board and leading the congregation in a project to paint the rectory. He and Theresa enjoyed traveling and visited Hawaii, California, and every state along the East Coast. Upon their retirement they moved to Davenport, Fla., where they lived for 13 years, and where Herm learned to golf, and achieved several “holes in one.” Herm made friends wherever he went — there were no strangers, only people he had never met.

He is survived by his three children, Joline Gruz, David Dionne and Linda Seamans; sons-in-law, Steven Gruz, Alan Seamans; and daughter-in-law, Kim Dionne; grandchildren, Joe Dionne, Katie Lentych, Nathan Gruz, James Dionne, Daniel Seamans and Anna Dionne; and one brother, Conrad Dionne.

He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Theresa (Morin) Dionne; his mother and father; his brother, Maurice Dionne; his sister, Pauline Plante; and a granddaughter, Nicole Seamans.

A special thank-you goes out to all of his health care providers: Schooner Estates — Memory Care Unit, Woodlands Memory Care of Lewiston and Androscoggin Hospice House.
