1931 – 2016

POLAND — Loretta Mae Leavitt Bernard, 85, of Poland passed away on Thursday, Oct. 20, at the home of her niece, Judy Thurlow, and with her grandchildren by her side.

She was born in Drew Plantation on Sept. 5, 1931, the daughter of Harry and Ida (Leavitt) Grant. She was educated in Drew and Lewiston Schools.

She met the love of her life Oliver Bernard and they were married on May 8, 1952.

Loretta was a homemaker. She enjoyed Bluegrass festivals with her mother, Aunt Mary, and sister Laurel. They were known as the van ladies. She collected antiques. She enjoyed collecting porcelain dolls, she also loved to read.

She is survived by her granddaughter, Heather (Adam) Conley of Rumford; grandson, John (Tammi) Bernard of Mexico; five great-grandchildren, Lacresha, Nick, Hunter, Kearra and Nicole, and one great-great-grandson, Karter; and a brother, James Potter.

She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Oliver; son, Robert; brothers, Tallman and Donnie; and one sister, Laurel.

A special thank-you to her niece, Judy, for the care she gave her. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
