State Police say 47-year-old Alice Balcer and her husband Antonio Balcer were murdered inside their home early Monday morning.

Police say the couple lived in Winthrop with their two sons. Investigators say they have charged a Winthrop teen with two counts of murder, but aren’t releasing any more details about the suspect.

Neighbor Melissa Shannon says she and her family were sleeping when their doorbell started ringing incessantly around 2 a.m.

“And a lady was outside screaming outside the door asking for help,” Shannon said.

Fearful for their safety, Shannon called 911 while her mother spoke to the woman through the door.

“She said someone had a gun and she was afraid for her life,” Shannon said.

The dispatcher told Shannon police were on their way.

“At that time the lady was very frantic and she left our doorstep,” Shannon said.

When officers got to the home at 10 Pine Knoll Road, investigators say they discovered two bodies inside.

Joy Rice has lived on the road for 32 years and hasn’t heard of anything like this in her neighborhood before.

“I had no idea there was any problems like that on this road,” Rice said.

State Police say the teen is in custody at Long Creek in South Portland and is due in court Tuesday afternoon.
