LEWISTON — The City Council approved a first reading of amendments to the Solid Waste Ordinance on Tuesday night by a 7-0 vote.
If these amendments are approved, taxpayers would be allowed up to 1,000 pounds of landfill use and will then pay the going rate at the landfill, which is currently $93 for an additional 1,000 pounds of solid waste.
Owners of residential properties, which currently get one free pass for every three rental units, will be able to purchase an ePass for $20 for every three units.
In other business, councilors:
• Approved a liquor license for Big Mike’s Smoke House at 838 Lisbon St.
• Renewed a special amusement permit for the Ramada Inn at 490 Pleasant St.
• Approved a first reading of amendments to the Stormwater Management Ordinance. If these amendments are approved, they would update the city’s Land Use Code to be consistent with the Maine Stormwater Management Law.
• Approved a first reading of a proposal to rezone King Street from commercial to residential. If the rezoning is approved, the even-numbered addresses on King Street would be rezoned to the Neighborhood Conservation “A” District.
• Approved the sale of tax-acquired property at 422 Pleasant St.
• Voted to transfer a 1988 firetruck to the Greene Fire Department to be used for training and additional mutual aid after appropriate repairs have been made.
