Mexico class to meet

ANDOVER — Mexico High School Class of 1952 will have a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, at the Little Red Hen.

‘Super’ supper canceled

CHESTERVILLE — The ‘souper’ supper scheduled for Friday, Nov. 11, at the Chesterville Grange has been canceled.

PARIS — A holiday Chinese auction will be held Saturday, Nov. 12, at the VFW Hall at 58 Main St. The viewing will be held at 3 p.m. and the action will start at 5 p.m.

The lunch counter will be open.

Garden club to learn about ‘vermiculture’

FARMINGTON — The Mt. Blue Area Garden Club will learn the benefits of vermiculture during its next meeting Tuesday, Nov. 15, at Trinity United Methodist Church.

Vermiculture is a way of composting using earthworms to speed up the process. It is easily done inside the home as it takes only a small amount of room and creates no odor. 

John Black from Rocky Hill Landscaping will present a program on vermiculture and answer questions.

Light refreshments will be provided at 6 p.m. followed by the presentation at 6:30 p.m.

Rumford Historical Society meeting

RUMFORD — The Rumford Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, in the Auditorium of the Rumford Town Hall.

Following a brief business meeting, the speaker of the evening will be Len Greaney of Rumford Center. In keeping with the society’s recognition of the upcoming Thanksgiving season, Greaney will discuss the book “Metalluk,” the story of the last surviving Native American of this region. The book was written by Arthur Woodrow, an early prominent citizen of Swain Road in Rumford for whom the small village of Woodrowville was named.

Members and guests are asked to enter and exit the building via the River Street entrance by the Police Department. The auditorium is handicapped-accessible.

SeniorsPlus in Norway Nov. 16

NORWAY — Representatives from SeniorsPlus will visit Norway from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, at the Norway Town Office.

They will be on hand to answer any questions or concerns community members may have about services and resources for older adults and adults with disabilities and their families.

Ski club seeks Queen candidates

RUMFORD — The Chisholm Ski Club will celebrate its 100th anniversary this winter by hosting many different events, including the revival of the Winter Carnival Feb. 3 through 5, 2017.

In keeping with the history of the Winter Carnival, there will be a Carnival Queen competition in which queen candidates will sell Winter Carnival tickets and conduct other fundraisers of their choice. The candidate raising the most money for the Chisholm Ski Club will be crowned Queen at the carnival banquet on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, at Black Mountain Lodge. Money raised by the queen candidates will go towards the Chisholm Ski Club’s vision of the Youth Development Ski Program.

The Chisholm Ski Club is looking for three to five candidates between the ages of 18 and 30, and fundraising will start Dec. 1 and continue through Jan. 31, 2017. Each queen candidate must raise a minimum of $500 and will retain 10 percent of her earnings. The winning queen candidate will also be awarded a weekend lodging and dining package in Jackson, New Hampshire. This package will be good for any season and will also include $250 to be used for activities such as skiing, golfing or shopping in nearby North Conway, New Hampshire.

Fundraising bottle drive 

DIXFIELD — For the month of November, the Mexico Police Explorers, Post 364, will hold a fundraising bottle drive.

Returnables may be brought to LaPrell’s Bottle Redemption, 48 Weld St. 

Proceeds will benefit the Mexico Police Explorers.
