FARMINGTON — The University of Maine at Farmington will hold its 11th annual College to Career Symposium, a panel and networking event that brings business leaders and UMF alumni to campus to help students make a successful transition from college to career.

The event will take place from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, in North Dining Hall B and C in the UMF Olsen Student Center. It is free and open to the public.

The symposium will feature a panel of successful Maine business professionals who will share their post-graduate career paths and advice on navigating today’s job landscape. Key topics will include current employment trends, future job opportunities, what to expect during the interview process and the role social media plays in job searches today.

Guest speakers include moderator Chris McKee, UMF Class of 1992, vice president of corporate programs at Geiger; and panelists Sven Bartholomew, class of 2002, vice president of payroll, Bangor Savings Bank; Ryan Lilly, class of 1997, center director, Maine VA Healthcare System; Greg Mehlhorn, engagement project manager, Tyler Technologies; Charlotte Warren, class of 1994, Maine state representative for District 84; and Cathy Witherspoon, senior vice president, Boyne Resorts.

The panel will be followed by a meet-and-greet and networking opportunity. Business attire is recommended.

The event is sponsored by UMF Career Services, the Ferro Alumni Center and the UMF Pre-MBA Program. UMF Career Services offers one-on-one career counseling services to students regarding career and academic issues and continuing workshops and information regarding internships, resume and interviewing skills and graduate school planning.
