OTISFIELD — The final Otisfield Historical Society program of the year will be “Mary Pride Knight: The Woman Behind the Diaries.”

It will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, at the Otisfield Community Hall on Route 121.

Knight lived in Otisfield from 1811-97, and recorded Otisfield events for some 60 years.

The PowerPoint presentation will feature two speakers. Jean Pottle will begin with an assessment of Knight as diarist, wife and mother, who during her long life found a variety of ways to cope with loneliness and family grief.

Jean Hankins will then trace the complicated history of the diaries themselves, showing how the physical volumes moved around and how Historical Society members finally managed to bring home transcripts and facsimiles of the handwritten diaries.

All are welcome. Members will display copies of the diaries, as well as the two transcripts and photocopies of the diaries.
