1923 – 2016

SOUTH PARIS — John A. Capponi Sr., 93, formerly of Mexico, passed away Monday, Nov. 14, at the Maine Veterans’ Home in South Paris.

He was born in Auburn on May 3, 1923, the eldest child of Felix and Grace (Jannace) Capponi. John was educated in Rumford schools and was a graduate of Stephens High School.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II as a signalman. He proudly shared stories about his experiences in World War II; these stories were told and retold many times throughout the years and enjoyed by all who heard them, young and old.

John married Arlene (Conant) on July 14, 1946; together they celebrated 53 years of marriage; she passed in June 1999. Following the death of his wife, John shared the last 16 years of his life with Theresa Diconzo.

John was very fortunate to have shared his life with two amazing women.
