AUGUSTA — A 17-year-old boy charged in the deaths of his parents in Maine could face up to life in prison if prosecutors succeed in charging him as an adult.

The Kennebec Journal reports a judge ruled details of the double slaying will remain sealed for at least two more months.

Andrew Balcer is accused of two counts of murder in the slaying of Antonio and Alice Balcer in their Winthrop home on Oct. 31. He could be sentenced to 25 years to life on each count if tried and convicted as an adult.

The court ordered a psychological examination for Balcer set for Dec. 7. Balcer, who turns 18 Dec. 3, will continue to be held at Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland.

Police say a 911 call led them to his parents’ bodies, and that Balcer and his older brother, Christopher, were both home at the time. A neighbor said she called for help in the early morning after a woman came to her door saying someone had a gun and she feared for her life.

The father was a former member of the Coast Guard. He was a proud member of a biker club, the Exiles, and led a biker Bible study. His Facebook page shows him baptizing two men last year and lists him as a local union steward.

His wife, who went by Ali, was into fitness, and photos on her Facebook page show her participating in several obstacle courses. She worked at Winthrop Veterinary Hospital and loved animals.
