1929 – 2016

AUBURN — Doris M. Brown, 87, formerly of Canton died Thursday, Nov. 17, at the Odd Fellows Home in Auburn, surrounded by her family, following a long illness.

She was born in Canton on Feb. 20, 1929, the daughter of the late Fred and Mildred (Farrington) Gurney. She graduated from Canton High School in 1947 and married Sherman Brown on Sept. 28, 1947.

They made their home in Canton and she always enjoyed coffee while visiting with family and friends.

Doris had various jobs throughout the years, the last one being a teacher’s aide at SAD 21, making many lasting friendships.

She was a very proud member of the Ponemah Rebekah Lodge, VFW Auxiliary and Canton Mother’s Club.

She is survived by her daughters, Lorna Lee and her husband, Sonny, and Freda Dyke and her husband, Stanley; six granddaughters, Angela and her sons, Cody and Nicholas, Bethany and her companion, Don, and her two children, Colby and Zeb, Lori and her companion, Matt, and her daughter, Makayla, Becky and her husband, Kevin, and their children, Tyler and Renee, Kimberly and her husband, Ryan, and their daughter, Lenix, and Crissy and her husband, Todd, and their children, Aiden and Laurel; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Sherman in 1994; two brothers, Warren Gurney and Fred Gurney Jr.; and a sister, Bernice Yates.
