The opening of Krispy Kreme’s new Center Street location has been pushed back to spring, according to city officials.

“The owner of Krispy Kreme said they are now hoping for a May opening,” Doug Greene, the city’s urban development and grant administrator, said Thursday.

The target opening had been the end of the year.

Earthwork on the $3 million project at 410 Center St., which also will include Firehouse Subs, began just a few months ago.

Developer Cort Mendez, president and CEO of NH Glazed, LLC, didn’t respond to a message left Thursday. Krispy Kreme is expected to open three stores in Maine. Even with the delayed opening, Auburn would still likely be first in the state for the chain.
