AUBURN — Police late Friday were searching for a Massachusetts man for questioning in an early morning shooting on Bowdoin Street.

Investigators said they were looking to speak with 28-year-old Mickiel James about the shooting.

“James is being sought for questioning and is not considered wanted at this time,” Auburn Deputy Police Chief Jason Moen wrote in a press release.

Police said James is listed as a transient with prior addresses in both Lewiston and Dorchester, Massachusetts.

At about 2:20 a.m. Friday, a suspect fired a gun during an altercation at the home of DeWayne Williams at 241 Bowdoin St., police said.

Michael Williams, 26, of Lewiston and Justin Botelho, 23, of Cranston, Rhode Island, were shot and taken by personal vehicles to hospitals.

Williams remained at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston Friday night after undergoing surgery for his wounds. Botelho was treated and released from St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston Friday morning.

Detectives executed a search warrant at the Bowdoin Street home to process evidence, according to a police statement. Although police say they don’t have a motive or suspect in the shooting, they said they are confident the shooting was an isolated incident.

Police are asking that anyone with information about the whereabouts of James is asked to contact Detective Terrance McCormick at 207-333-6651 or at tmccormick@auburnmaine.gov
