FARMINGTON — A section of a rock wall at Fairview Cemetery was toppled Tuesday morning by a bucket loader traveling down High Street, police said.

The machine, owned by Cousineau Inc. of Wilton, was being driven by Raymond Merchant, 33, of New Sharon, Farmington police officer Michael Lyman said. Apparently, the loader was close to the sidewalk and the side of the bucket struck the wall, he said.

About 10 feet of the wall toppled, Town Manager Richard Davis told the Board of Selectmen on Tuesday.

“Randy (Cousineau) left a voice mail for me stating that it was his equipment that did the damage,” Davis said in a email Wednesday.  “It will be an insurance claim, but I don’t know the cost (of repair).”
