As a longtime proponent of complete overhaul of the national health care system, I feel that Congress (both Democrats and Republicans) has failed us.

Sen. Susan Collins wants to extend the deadline to remove Obamacare and allow GOP leaders more time to develop alternatives. Sen. Angus King opposes the repeal, preferring to make it better while agreeing that the law is not perfect.

So the question is — what has either senator done during the past seven years to make the law better?

Surely, knowing the law was poorly written, complicated (you have to pass it to find out what’s in it), sold with false promises, has led to increasing deductibles/premiums and failed insurance exchanges, and that repeal could impact millions of enrollees, they would have submitted numerous amendments during that period to improve the law.

Perhaps the senators will provide the public with a list of their efforts to improve the law.

I truly hope Republicans and Democrats are successful this time and take as much time as needed to develop a comprehensive health care system that people can understand and support. Further, I hope they will put the needs of their constituents ahead of their political parties. The words “fat chance” comes to mind.

It should be obvious to members of Congress that voters are fed up with their constant bickering and inability to get anything accomplished.

Elections will come around again and people want representatives who will get things done for Americans, not their political parties.
