FARMINGTON — Plans are underway to bring the Fire and Ice Festival back to town on March 11.

Anna Lyon, assistant vice president-marketing director of Franklin Savings Bank, John Moore, owner of Narrow Gauge Cinemas, and Tammy Parsons, owner of Divine Inspirations, along with a couple of other Front Street merchants, are once again planning to host events.

They are asking other downtown businesses to join them.

“We’ve heard a lot of positive buzz in the community,” Lyon said. “No sooner had I posted an event on Facebook when people started asking about it. People do seem to love it.”

Franklin Savings Bank is running a tube park on Front Street, with help from Collins Enterprises and Kevin Vining.

“We are hoarding the snow in preparation,” she said.

The festival was started in 2013.

Weather conditions wreaked havoc in 2015 and the festival was canceled. Last year, there was a lack of snow.

Narrow Gauge Cinemas plans to show two free movies and sponsor sleigh and wagon rides. Narrow Gauge Cinemas, along with Kyes Insurance, will again sponsor the evening fireworks.

Divine Inspirations is hosting snowman-decorating, she said.

In a letter to the Farmington Downtown Association, Lyon said there is no committee or big amount of planning that takes place.

“We just look out the window and see if we think there will be enough winter to do something fun and we each do our own thing to make it happen,” she said. “We think we can pull it off this year on March 11 but, of course, Mother Nature has the final word.”

Lyon has some ideas for other fun events, but they want to welcome others to participate. 

Kenny Brechner of Devaney Doak and Garrett Booksellers plans to create a scavenger hunt, she said. County Seat Realty will provide music.
