PORTLAND — The Portland International Jetport says it’s reached a record year for passenger traffic in 2016.

It recorded 1,785,649 passengers. That’s more than 2015’s total of 1,728,746 passengers, an increase of 3.2 percent.

The previous record was set in 2008 at 1,762,925 passengers.

Airport officials says some factors contributing to the passenger traffic are American Airlines adding a second daily Charlotte flight; Elite Airways adding non-stop service to Sarasota, Florida, and expanding its service to Melbourne, Florida; Southwest Airlines extended its summer schedule through November; and United Airlines adding larger aircraft on flights to Chicago, Newark and Washington.
