WILTON — A local man is accused of sexually assaulting a woman early Saturday.
Joel Thompson, 42, was arrested on charges of Class A gross sexual assault, Class B aggravated assault that involved strangulation, and violation of condition of release on an unrelated incident, Wilton Police Chief Heidi Wilcox said.
Police responded to a report of sex assault at 12:50 a.m. Saturday, she said. Officer Brian Lynch assisted at the scene.
Thompson was being held Monday morning without bail at the Franklin County Detention Center in Farmington. He was scheduled to appear before a judge Monday afternoon.
A conviction of a Class A crime is punishable by up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000. A conviction of a Class B crime is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000.
