NEW GLOUCESTER — Eugene Carl Golob, 73, of New Gloucester died Monday, Feb. 6, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Willimantic, Conn., on Sept. 6, 1943, to Frank Sr. and Helen Golob.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sharon Golob; his son Kyle and girlfriend, Tammy, of Oxford; and his son Cory and wife, Beckie, of Sabattus; as well as five grandchildren, Lyndsey, Hunter, Stanley, Savannah and Simon.

Gene was an avid sports fan who cheered the Boston Red Sox, New York Giants and UConn Huskies women’s basketball team. He was a member of the American Legion Post 19 in Windham, Conn., for many years. Gene enjoyed listening to his polka music. The light of his life was his five grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his two brothers, Frank Jr. and Gerald.
