Maggie Soule, right, organizer of the Park Avenue School Backpack Program in Auburn, received a grant for $2,000 from Liza Dimitri, vice president of the Lewiston Auburn Children’s Foundation. The BackPack Program provides children with healthy, easy-to-prepare food such as whole grains, fruits, vegetables and protein when the school meals they rely on are unavailable. In addition, the Park Avenue School BackPack Program partners with the Good Shepherd Food Bank to aid in providing the students with these discrete bags every weekend and during vacations.
