LEWISTON — Frank C. Greenwood, 87, a resident of Jay, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, Feb. 8, in the emergency department at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

He was born Nov. 3, 1929, in Wales, the son of Forrest W. Greenwood and Doris V. (Stanley) Greenwood. Frank was a 1947 graduate of Edward Little High School in Auburn. He joined the U.S. Army and proudly served his country. On April 19, 1952, in Muir, Pa., he married Helen R. Stahl and they happily shared 64 years together. He and his family enjoyed living in Leeds on their farm for 10 years before moving to Jay.

In his early years, he worked at the woolen mills in the Winthrop and Monmouth area. In 1968, Frank went to work for International Paper Company in Jay, where he worked until 1986. He was a member of the United Paper Workers Union, Local No. 11 in Jay. Frank was a very talented man, and he loved keeping busy. He proudly designed and built two homes for his family. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed making maple syrup, organic gardening, cutting wood, hunting, fishing, running, biking and exercising. He was a loving and devoted man who took great pride in caring for his family and home.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Greenwood of Jay; his children, Joanne Stearn of Lewiston, Keith Greenwood and his wife, Katrina, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Janet O’Brien of Milpitas, Calif., Sarah Havlock of Tilton, N.H.; his daughter-in-law, Susan Greenwood of Milford, Mass.; 11 grandchildren, Anneka and Gerrett Jasmin, Jennifer Hawthorne, Kimberly Propert, Christopher Greenwood, Christine Havlock, Jonathan Greenwood, Andrew Havlock, Patrick and Megan O’Brien, and Brandon Havlock; four step-grandchildren, Krystina and Joshua Murray, Stacy Williams, and Zac Stearn; nine great-grandchildren, Kiersten, Anders, Felix, Lilliana, Abigail, Cassandra, Quinn, Phoebe and Orion; his siblings, James Greenwood and his wife, Charlene, of Auburn, Caroline Chick and her husband, Richard, of Monmouth, Linda Karod and her husband, Stanley, of Camden, George Greenwood and his wife, Sandra, of West Poland, Robert Greenwood and his wife, Sandra, of Greene, and Jean Greenwood of Jefferson; his sister-in-law, Merlene Greenwood of Buckfield; brothers-in-law, Richard Stahl and his wife, Doris, of Pennsylvania, and Dean Stahl of Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his son, Brian Greenwood; and brothers, Frederick and Stanley Greenwood.
