PORTLAND — Nonprofit and public organizations seeking funding for projects that draw on the strengths of the community and foster collaboration are encouraged to apply to the Statewide Fund of the Maine Community Foundation’s Community Building Grant Program.

The Statewide Fund supports organizations pursuing multi-county projects and organizations in Kennebec and Sagadahoc counties, which do not have their own county or regional fund.

The community foundation’s flagship grant program is one of only a few Maine-based grant programs that serve the entire state and cover a broad array of interest areas, from animal welfare to youth development.

County and regional committees review the applications. Grants range in size from $500 to $10,000.

In 2016, grants from the fund were awarded to 15 nonprofits and totaled more than $160,000.

The deadline for submitting applications to the Community Building Grant Program is Feb. 15.
