FARMINGTON — Police are investigating a Feb. 9 accident involving a town grader on High Street, Police Chief Jack Peck said.
A man driving a 1998 Lincoln Navigator SUV struck a grader working on High Street near to South Street, Peck said. Although the SUV was damaged, the driver continued down High Street and drove past Lake Street before he abandoned the vehicle and ran off, Peck said.
The grader was not damaged and the operator was not hurt.
The SUV is registered to a man from Phillips and police believe he was the driver. They believe he checked himself into a hospital but not for injuries from the crash, Peck said.
Police have not had a chance to talk with the driver.
Empty alcohol containers were found in the vehicle, he said.
The department has recommended charges be brought and all evidence has been turned over to the District Attorney’s office, Peck said.
