Lewiston and Auburn street crews have been doing much good work, in anticipation of the spring thaws, in moving the large accumulation of snow which packs the highways. In Lewiston, the change from the custom of throwing the snow over the rail of the north bridge, a practice which did much to impede traffic on one side of the bridge, is appreciated. This year the snow is being dumped over the river bank via Water street

50 years ago, 1967
(Photo Caption) Greene Acres Motel is in its final stage of construction and is scheduled to open for business on April 1. The attractive structure has 25 units that feature all-electric heating, and an out-door swim pool. Long range plans are to include a class A restaurant and a club and will possibly be put into effect late in the summer. The new motel is located along the Lewiston-Greene Highway.

25 years ago, 1992
About 20 union workers from Crest Shoe in Lewiston Wednesday rejected a severance pay package proposed by company officials, urging their union leader to demand more from management. By June 1, the 92 workers at Crest Shoe will have been laid off. Ballet Makers Inc., which owns and operates Crest Shoe, recently announced the closing and said it would relocate the bulk of its operations to Alrose Shoe in Exeter, N. H., another division of Ballet Makers.
