PORTLAND — Sunday morning’s hours-long police situation at Wellesley Estates in Portland involved executing a search warrant after a “violent crime” in South Portland Saturday night.

A large Portland police presence at the apartment complex on Forest Avenue for hours focused on 102 Wellesley Estates, Portland police said.

WGME reporter Dan Lampariello has witnessed at least three people taken into custody, and police said several people were taken into custody. No one was injured.

South Portland detectives searched the apartment and removed evidence but have not shared any details on the violent crime as of early Sunday afternoon. Detectives remained on scene hours after the search warrant was executed.

Police opened the apartment complex around 11:50 p.m. Residents say the police have been on scene since 7 a.m.
