DEAR SUN SPOTS: When a bridal couple receives a wedding gift, what is the maximum time that the couple can wait to respond by sending a thank-you note to the giver? Thank you so much. — D.E.B., Lewiston.

ANSWER: While a full year is generally acceptable, according to the authority on etiquette, Emily Post, all thank-you notes should be written within three months of the receipt of the gift. Ideally, a response should be written on the day a wedding gift is received, but most couples will understandably put it off until after the honeymoon.

It is also important to be aware that not everyone is educated about proper etiquette. There is really no right or wrong way to say thank you, except not to say it.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: In the Rumford area we have two places to get 4×6 pictures made for 25 cents each. Rite Aid does have a special once in a while. I take pictures at the South Paris Veterans’ Home of some of the events. Can you help me find a better source for photos? — John, Rumford.

ANSWER: If you are happy with the quality of the photos and are more concerned with the price, your best bet may be to keep an eye on these photo specials from month to month. It is also often cheaper to print more, so if you save up all of the photos that you want to print until you can find a great deal, it could save you some money.

If you have, or can get, your photos onto a computer or internet-connected device, it is often cheaper to place your order online, either using your preferred store’s website or another photo service website. Then you can pick your order up in the store or, in some cases, have it mailed to your home. Here are some options for 4×6 photo printing:

  • Wal-Mart prints 4×6 photos from 9 cents to 19 cents, depending on how they are ordered and whether you need them the same day.
  • Rite Aid just had a special, 30 4×6 photos for $3.99, which is about 13 cents each, but the offer has expired. You can find coupons and deals at RiteAid.com.
  • Walgreens, 53 Paris St. in Norway, currently has 4×6 prints for 12 cents each.
  • While not local to Rumford, CVS Pharmacy also prints 4×6 photos for around the same price and often has special pricing and deals.

If you feel comfortable placing an order online, websites often offer even better prices:

  • At snapfish.com, 4×6 prints are 9 cents each and can be picked up in a local store, including Wal-Mart, or mailed to your home.
  • At shutterfly.com, 4×6 prints are 15 cents each and may be picked up in a local store, though they currently only send to Walgreens, CVS and Target, or have them mailed to your home.
