LEWISTON — Joseph Fern Gauthier, 80, of Blake Street Towers, Lewiston, died suddenly Tuesday, Feb. 14.
He was born in Lewiston, on Nov. 22, 1936, son of the late Sylvio and Gabrielle Audette Gauthier. He was educated in Lewiston schools, served in the U.S. Army, and worked in various local shoe factories.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed for many years with the city of Lewiston, first with Lewiston Public Works and then Lewiston Public Library. Following his retirement, he was the primary caretaker for his mother for several years.
Survivors include one brother, Gerard “Pete” Gauthier of Hudson, Fla.; one sister, Cecile Corneau of Sabattus; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Aline Bellavance Dube and Jeannine Blais.
He will be missed by friends, family and will be remembered fondly as the uncle and great-uncle with the candy dish that was always full.
