Jacob Hickey of Winthrop High School has been a special player for the Ramblers’ boys’ basketball team for four years.

Sunday, the Maine Association of Basketball Coaches only confirmed what those around him have known for a long time: Hickey is among the state’s best.

Hickey was named one of three finalists for this year’s Mr. Maine Basketball award, the state’s highest high school basketball honor that recognizes player performance on the court as well as their contribution to their team and basketball in the state of Maine.

Hickey joins Colin Coyne of Falmouth High School and Matt McDevitt of Greely High School among the finalists.

In the Miss Maine Basketball race, Katie Butler of Bangor High School, Emily Esposito of Gotham High School and Sophia Holmes of Messalonskee High School are the final three.

The six finalists will be honored and the two award winners will be announced at the Maine McDonald’s High School Senior All-Star Awards Banquet on Friday, March 10 at the Anah Shrine Hall in Bangor.

The All-Star Awards Banquet will also recognize All-Star players, All-Star coaches, members of the All-State Academic teams, Regional Foul Shooting Champions, the Maine McDonald’s Spirit of the Games recipients, and the MABC Contributor Award and Media Award honorees.
