LEWISTON — John Gawler, the folk-singing, banjo-and-harmonica-playing patriarch of the ever-popular Gawler Family Band will perform Wednesday, March 8, at the Oasis of Music, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 247 Bates St., from 12:30 to 1 p.m.

Gawler has entertained audiences from his home in Belgrade to the British Isles, Scandinavia, Italy, down through several African countries and on out to Tajikistan over his long and storied career as a part-time itinerant musician.

This Wednesday, his solo appearance will spotlight his touch on diverse American banjo styles, and heart songs from a variety of traditional and contemporary sources, always in the engaging sing-along style of the late Pete Seeger.

Oasis of Music concerts are always free and open to the public. FMI: Call 344-3106.
