PARIS — Terry R. Boissonneau has been named the Veteran of the Month at the Maine Veterans Home.
Boissonneau served in the U.S. Army, being drafted Sept. 28, 1965, and was honorably discharged on July 7, 1967, achieving the rank of E4.
He was born on July 3, 1945, and grew up in Westbrook, graduating from Westbrook High School. In July 1972, Boissonneau earned his diploma in printing.
Boissonneau was stationed at the AN-KHE Army Airfield Base near Pleiku, Vietnam. When he got there, there were only tents to live. Eventually the base built wood and screened-in buildings. He volunteered for Airborne until he was injured and worked in administration and did guard duty at the base.
Boissonneau earned the National Defense Service medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, two overseas Service bars and the Marksman (Rifle N-14) Medal.
After the service, he worked for the Portland Press Herald as a Photo Engraver for more than 40 years.
Boissonneau married in 1979 and has three stepchildren.
He is an avid outdoorsman and has enjoyed camping, hiking, canoeing and fishing. He also enjoys watching old westerns (Clint Eastwood movies are his favorite ones).
Boissonneau came to the Maine Veterans’ Home in January 2015 and now resides on the B-Unit.
