LIVERMORE — The Board of Selectpersons learned Tuesday that the town has reopened the bidding process for mowing cemeteries.

Mike Booker of Jay, whose bid was accepted April 4, backed out, Administrative Assistant Amy Byron said.

Shawn Bryant of Jay, the board’s second choice, accepted another job, Byron said.

The third bid, submitted by Michael Webber of Livermore Falls, was more than budgeted by the town.

Byron said bids are due May 2. The board will open them at its meeting that evening.

Selectperson Timothy Kachnovich said spring cleanup should be done by May 1. Bidders should know that everything needs to be hauled away, he said.

After the meeting there was talk of having the Highway Department take on the work. Doing so would mean making a part-time worker a full-time position, which would increase associated costs such as benefits. Equipment purchases and more fuel were other factors the board would have to consider.

In other news, the board declared May 7-13 Municipal Clerks Week, and agreed to post a proclamation regarding that week sent by the Maine Municipal Association. The wording would have to be tweaked a bit, Byron said.

The Proclamation notes in part: “The office of the Municipal Clerk is a time-honored and vital part of local government; is the oldest among public servants; provides a professional link between the citizens, local governing bodies and agencies of government at other levels; and serves as the information center on functions of local government and the community.”

“There is no cost. It’s a good morale booster,” Selectman Tom Gould said.
