AUBURN — A big fourth inning helped propel Edward Little to a 5-3 victory over Hampden Academy on Saturday.

The Eddies scored four times in the fourth as seven batters reached base via four singles, two walks and hit batter.

They had tied the game at one in the third after the Broncos went ahead 1-0 in the top of the frame. Tyler Blanchard had a double, moved to third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Maxx Bell.

Jarod Norcross Plourde started the game for the Red Eddies (1-1). He went five innings and struck out seven. CJ Jipson came on in relief in the sixth, but ran into trouble in the seventh as Hampden (1-1) scored two more runs. Tyler Libby came in for the save. Softball

Poland 13, Gray-NG 6

POLAND — Catcher Ashton Sturtevant recorded a double and two singles to lead Poland to a 13-6 victory over Gray-New Gloucester in softball action Saturday afternoon.

The Knights (2-0) led 11-1 after five innings and before the Patriots (0-1) responded with five-run rally. Pitcher Ally Gagne, who earned the win, and Tori Tibbetts added two hits apiece for Poland.

Hannah Dixon cracked a single and a double for Gray-New Gloucester, while pitcher Alison Martell posted a double in the losing effort.

Edward Little 21, Hampden Academy 9

AUBURN — Sophomore Abby Russell ripped two triples and a double for four runs batted in and three runs scored as Edward Little sailed to a 21-9 victory over Hampden Academy in softball action Saturday afternoon.

The Red Eddies (2-0) collected 18 hits as Oliva Jensen contributed three, while Grace Beaudet, Kylie Bureau, Grace Russell and Emmy Lashua tallied two apiece. Beaudet and Abby Russell had back to back triples to plate three runs in the first inning.

Emily Dysart was the only repeat hitter for the Broncos (1-1) with two triples, two runs batted in and a run scored in the losing effort.

Girls’ lacrosse

Windham 13, Edward Little 5

WINDHAM — Mya Mannette netted three goals and posted three assists as Windham pulled away for a 13-5 victory over Edward Little in girls’ lacrosse action Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles (1-0) only led by one at the half, 5-4. Windham picked up steam in the second half as Maddy Beam, Katelyn Roberts and Alana Joyce collected two goals each in the game.

Megan Steele found the back of the cage on three ocassions for the Red Eddies (0-1). Kaylee Jipson added two assists.

Goalie Mariah Vaillancourt made 16 saves for Edwarfd Little, while goalie Grace Sawyer turned back two to earn the win in goal for Windham.

College softball

Bates, Colby split

LEWISTON — First-year players Julia Treadwell and India Woolmington combined for five hits, three doubles and three RBIs as Bates split against Colby College, 5-2 and 3-6, in softball action at Lafayette Street Field Saturday.

The Bobcats (9-11) scored two runs in the first inning of Game 1 and added runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings in support of first-year pitcher Kirsten Pelletier, who earned her first NESCAC victory in a complete game effort.

Bates 16, Conn. College 14

NEW LONDON, Conn. — Senior midfielder Charlie Fay of Falmouth scored five goals and assisted on a sixth marker to lead the second ranked Bates College men’s lacrosse team to a 16-14 victory over Connecticut College Saturday afternoon.

Junior Clarke Jones chipped in with four goals and two assists for the Bobcats (12-0). Matt Chlastawa finihsed with three goals and three assists.

Senior Ross Thompson scored three goals and assisted on two to lead the Camels (7-7) on offense.

Sophomore PJ Kelleher added a goal and five assists for the Bobcats.

Women’s lacrosse

Bates 12, Conn. College 9

LEWISTON — Junior Camille Belletete scored a game-high four goals as Bates improved to .500 with a 12-9 victory over Connecticut College in women’s lacrosse action at Garcelon Field Sautrday afternoon.

First-year Caroline Kerrigan gave the Bobcats (7-7) the lead for good with 18:49 to go in the first half on her sixth goal of the season.

The Camels (3-11) scored six of the final seven goals in the contest. But, the result was never really in doubt as three of those six goals came in the final 30 seconds.

Julia Loesch and Tina Balzotti paced Connecticut Collge with three goals each.

Kerrigan, Sydney Howard and Sydney Cowles contributed two goals each for Bates in the winning effort.
