Michael S. Irving

Maine State Police are asking the public for help in finding a suspect in Sunday’s ramming of a state police cruiser in Lyman.

Troopers say 49-year-old Michael S. Irving fled the scene after the cruiser was hit.

Irving’s vehicle was found later abandoned at an ATV trail near the Lyman Elementary School.

Trooper David Coflesky said he pulled over Irving in connection with an inspection sticker violation along Day Road. As the trooper was sitting in his cruiser to check on Irving’s identification, the vehicle went into reverse, rammed the cruiser and drove away. The abandoned vehicle was found about a half mile away.

Coflesky was not injured.

A search of the woods with tracking dogs did not find Irving.

Irving is 5’11” tall, weighs 150 pounds, and has short, brown hair and hazel eyes.

Irving is described as a transient who frequents Old Orchard Beach, Portland and Biddeford.

State police say they plan to charge Irving with reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, aggravated criminal mischief and eluding a police officer.

The cruiser sustained over $1,000 in damage to the front end.

Anyone with information on Irving’s location is asked to call state police in Gray at 207-657-3030
