RUMFORD — Dylan Desroches drove in Jacob Beauchesne with a long sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Mountain Valley a 5-4 baseball win over Telstar on Thursday. 

Beauchesne doubled to start the inning and advanced to third on a wild pitch. 

The Rebels (1-2) tied the contest in the top of the seventh on an RBI double by catcher Boston Ludden. Garrett Garbarini led the Falcons (2-0) with two doubles and two RBIs, while Cam Godbois also drove in two runs. 

Freshman reliever Fischer Cormer earned the mound win, while Josh Elliott was tagged with the loss. 

Boys’ lacrosse

Gardiner 12, Oak Hill 4

WALES — Tristian Herbert and Mike Poirier each netted three goals on Thursday to propel Gardiner to a 12-4 early season boys’ lacrosse victory over Oak Hill.

Conner Manter and Solan Bethalume chipped in with two goals each for the Tigers, while a single tally by Tanner Hebert completed the scoring.

The Raiders were paced by Marcus Bailey’s two goals, while Steve Gilbert and Gabe Bergeron also tallied.

Noah Keene made 17 saves for Gardiner, and Nate Marcotte turned aside 17 shots between the posts for Oak Hill.  

College softball

UMF splits with New England

FARMINGTON — The University of Maine at Farmington softball squad split a doubleheader against New England College on Thursday afternoon at Prescott Field. 

New England won the opener, 1-0. Anatasia Albright started out in the circle for UMF, and gave up three hits in seven innings of work. Alison Hamilton went 1-for-3 on senior day, while Erika Whitman and Kailyn Hill went 2-for-3 for the Beavers.

UMF took the nightcap, 2-0. Elizabeth Walker went 2-for-3 for the Beavers, highlighted by a two-run home run.

Debra Mazzo started out for the Pilgrims, giving up six hits and two earned runs in six innings of work. Jessica Carroll, Gabriella Marcheschi and Brianna Castellano each tallied a hit for UNE.
