WATERBORO — Dewey W. Stephenson, 93, of Hickory Lane, passed away Monday, May 1, at Evergreen Manor, four days after his wife passed by his side.

He was born in Auburn on Sept. 17, 1923, the son of Dewey and Alice Healey Stephenson. Dewey attended local schools and graduated from Edward Little High School. He played local AAA baseball before serving in the U.S. Navy in the Asiatic and European Theaters during WWII. After his service in the Navy, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the 11th Airborne Unit in Korea and participated in the events at Chosin Reservoir.

After Korea, he returned to Maine and worked in trucking for Honeywell Industries and then as a machinist for W.H. Nichols, from which he retired. Mr. Stephenson was a member of the American Legion.

In 1954 he married Rose Harkins and they moved to Waterboro in 1974, to be closer to their family. Dewey enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, hiking and camping with his family.

Survivors include brother, Leo Paul Stephenson of North Carolina; two sisters, Barbara Furkbeiner and Nancy Prindell; son, David Stephenson and his predeceased wife, Bert, of Waterboro; grandsons, David Jr. and wife, Jami, and Shawn and wife, Marianne, of Waterboro; step-grandsons, James Heath and Joseph McNally and his wife, Mindy; and five great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Brianna, Samuel, Paige and Luke.

He was predeceased by his wife, Rose, of 62 years; brothers, Robert, Earl and Ray Stephenson; and three sisters, Louise Sullivan, Cecile Roys and Mary Jane Surrell.
