LEWISTON — Catapults and robots will help to teach science lessons this summer as part of Lewiston Adult Education programming for parents and children.

The STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) events will run from June to August. They are part of a collaboration between Lewiston Adult Education and a number of organizations, including 4-H and Bates College.

The first scheduled class is Basic Arabic taught by Yahya Ismael on Tuesday, June 27, at Lewiston High School. Ismael has taught Arabic to high school students for the past academic year and will give the one-night lesson a few weeks before his return to his home in Egypt.

Maisy Cyr of 4-H Youth Development will teach Physics Concepts on Tuesday, Aug. 1, and Fun with Catapults on Tuesday, Aug. 15. Chris Dorman of the Maine State Library will give lessons as part of the Tuesday, Aug. 22, Robots class. Doug Dumont of Lewiston High School’s Aspirations Lab with give tips in his Preparing for College class on Thursday, Aug. 24.

All but one of the classes will be held at Lewiston High School. Nicole Hastings will host Discover Stars at Ladd Planetarium at Bates College on Tuesday, July 18.
