LEWISTON — Cecile L. (Laplante) Gagnon, 87, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Monday, June 5, at the Marshwood Center in Lewiston. She was born in Lewiston on March 9, 1930, the daughter of the late Cyrille and Reinelda Laplante.

Cecile was a devout Catholic, regularly attending Mass and singing in the choir at Holy Cross Church. She lived in Lewiston her entire life, and on May 30, 1950, she married the love of her life, Russell Gagnon, and they shared a loving marriage of over 65 years until his passing in 2015. She worked at Knapp Shoe, earned her GED, and worked for 11 years at Liberty Mutual until her retirement in 1991. Cecile enjoyed family, camping, walking, playing cards, traveling and shopping with her daughters. Family was her pride and joy.

Cecile is survived by her four daughters, Connie and her husband, Dennis Lynch, of Greene, Pauline and her husband, Normand Jalbert, of Lewiston, Rachel and her husband, Alan Hill, of Turner and Nancy Boucher of Sabattus; her five sisters, Irene, Lorraine, Yvette, Carmelle and Simonne, all of Lewiston; her sister-in-law, Cecile of Brunswick; her six grandchildren, Shawn, Kevin, Bryan, Ashleigh, Amanda, and Abbey; her seven great-grandchildren, Hunter, Mason, Kylie, Katelyn, Summer, Abel and Denton; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; her brother, Fr. Laplante; her sister, Fern; and her first grandchild, Jason.

Cecile’s family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Marshwood Center and also to the Beacon Hospice House for their wonderful care and support toward Mom.
