AUGUSTA — Archie A. “A.J.” Skip” Wing Jr., 72, of Main Street, Peru, passed away on Friday, June 16, at Togus Springs Hospice and Palliative Care Facility following a brief illness.

He was born in Rumford on January 23, 1945, a son of Rose A. (Richards) and Archie A. Wing Sr.

Skip was educated in Dixfield schools and was a graduate of Dixfield Regional High School, Class of 1965.

He proudly served his county in U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He also served in the National Guard. He was a member and past commander of Post 100 of the American Legion, as well as the Oxford County Council. He married “the best,” Charlene Voter, on July 3, 1971, and together they celebrated 46 years.

He was affectionately known as A.J. at Archie’s Inc., where he worked for over 26 years.

Prior to that, he was employed at Peru Elementary School as a janitor and bus driver and also worked at Stowell McGregor.

He and his wife traveled to the Philippines for the 35th wedding anniversary to meet their daughter-in-law, grandson, and family.

Skip loved hunting, fishing, bowling, and attending bluegrass festivals.

His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren, especially Travis and Trevor.

Surviving is his wife of 46 years, Charlene R. (Voter) Wing of Peru; son, Nathan Wing and wife, Anna Liza, of Oman and Dixfield; daughter, Dawn Crosby and husband, Daniel, of Canton; brother, George “Eppie” Wing of Peru; sister, Florence Porter and husband, Frank, of Dixfield; and grandchildren, Charles “CJ” Wing, Jon Gozum, Dianne Gozum, Travis Wright, Trevor Wright, Tessa Joncas, Jacob Crosby and Elijah Crosby.

He was predeceased by his parents; granddaughter, Erica Wing; sisters, Margaret Vatalaro, Barbara Dixon, Louise Vaughn and Ruth Desroches; and brothers, Alton “Buster” Wing and Alfred “Tonka” Wing.
