AUBURN — To merge or not to merge?

The Lewiston Auburn Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce is hosting a forum at Central Maine Community College on Tuesday, bringing together a voice from each side of the current merger proposal to lay out their positions and take questions.

Gene Geiger from the Lewiston-Auburn Joint Charter Commission will speak in favor, Jim Howaniec from the Coalition to Oppose Lewiston-Auburn Consolidation will speak against. Chamber President Beckie Conrad will moderate.

The forum will run from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public. The doors to room 103 in Kirk Hall will open at 5:15 p.m.

Conrad said shortly after being named president that the chamber hasn’t taken a position on the merger, but wanted to hold the forum to educate membership and the community.

Questions will be collected from the audience on index cards during the first half hour, according to Conrad, and the last half-hour will be spent answering questions that hadn’t come up yet.
