AUBURN — Pastime Club has enough speed up and down its lineup to keep the opposition on its toes regardless of how well it is swinging the bats.

When Pastime is able to combine its athleticism with a deluge of hits — as it did with a baker’s dozen Monday — look out.

Hunter Landry led Pastime’s 13-hit attack by going 4-for-4 with a double, four runs driven in and four runs scored in a 14-5 win over Gardiner in Zone II American Legion baseball at Pettengill Park.

“I was feeling really good out there,” Landry said. “Our lineup is athletic, one through nine, so we can steal a base whenever we feel like it. It all depends on how well we’re reading the pitcher and if we’re getting on base. When we’re hitting well, everything just kind of goes well.”

Evan Cox also went 4-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and four runs scored. Pastime (6-1) also drew five walks and stole seven bases to keep the pressure on Gardiner (0-6).

“We really try to be aggressive on the base paths and force the other team to make some tough plays,” Pastime coach Jake Brown said. “Once you have people moving around, it kind of quickens the game for the other team.”

Pastime jumped on Gardiner quickly with three runs in the first and four in the second. Landry’s two-run single highlighted the first. In the second, Cox had an RBI double, Brock Belanger a sacrifice fly and Hunter Richardson (two hits, two RBIs) an RBI single.

Gardiner finally answered with three in the fourth off of Cox and two in the fifth off of Reid Cote. But Pastime was able to match with three in the bottom of the fourth and then make it 13-5 with three more in the bottom of the fifth.

Landry and Richardson drove in the three runs in the fifth with back-to-back doubles.

Gordon Beckwith threw two scoreless innings in relief of Cote.

Ryan Kappelman reached base four times for Gardiner on two singles, a walk and a hit batter. He also scored two runs and drove in one. Nick Sanborn added a pair of hits, including a double.
