AUBURN — Helen E. Durgin Hewins of Greene died Thursday, July 6, at an Auburn facility. She was born on June 9, 1924, in Providence, R.I., a daughter of Reginald and Elizabeth McCarthy Durgin.

She worked at Knapp Shoe for 29 years and was a volunteer at Central Maine Medical Center for 22 years. Helen was a member of the Women’s Club of Greene for many years.

She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley Hewins, two daughters, Beverly Greenwood and Gail St. Germaine, two brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include her daughter, Glenda Johnson and husband, Howard Jr.; a sister, Gladys Sawyer of Turner; and brother, John Durgin Jr. of Greene; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
