NEW VINEYARD — The driver of a delivery truck told police he swerved to avoid an SUV that crossed into his lane on Route 27 near Bog Road on Wednesday, Maine State Police Trooper Eric Ward said.

Shawn Duggan, 49, of Bath said the SUV driver was either talking on a cellphone or texting, Ward said.

The Commercial Delivery Systems truck went off the road about 60 feet, he said. It was towed away.

Police could not locate the SUV, and other law enforcement agencies were asked to be on the lookout for it.

Duggan complained of pain to his arm and was taken by a NorthStar EMS ambulance to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, Ward said.

Trooper Jillian Monahan and New Vineyard Fire Department assisted Ward at the accident, which reported at 9:57 a.m.
