LEWISTON — Local musician Denny Breau and the Friends of Pettingill are banding together to host a free concert at Pettingill School Park in Lewiston on Tuesday, July 25.  The event is described as a “thank you” to the community for its hard work and financial support of the popular family play area which replaced the former Pettingill Elementary School.

Denny Breau has assembled a group of local musicians to perform at the concert.  They include: Debbie Morin, Frank Coffin, Malinda Liberty, Brooke Lachance and Jason Fogg, and Charlene Leclair.  Although the concert is free for everyone, Breau and the committee are welcoming contributions towards the purchase of a “Lenny Breau Pergola” sign to complete the archway construction.  The Friends will also be hosting a bake sale during the show which runs from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the school park.  Donations can also be made through the city’s new web store at www.lewistonmaine.gov/webstore

Forty months ago the Lewiston City Council made an unusual arrangement with a citizen’s committee to authorize a new park under the condition that city funds would not be used in the development phase.  Instead, Friends of Pettingill undertook the challenge to create walkways and purchase park benches and trees, plant gardens, update playground equipment and build the Lenny Breau Pergola.

Guitarist and songwriter Denny Breau hopes to raise funds to honor his late brother, renowned guitarist Lenny Breau, to purchase the sign shown in this artist’s conception. It will hang from the pergola which was built two years ago by the students of Lewiston Regional Technical Center at Pettingill School Park at the corner of Marble and College streets in Lewiston. Denny and the Friends of Pettingill will be hosting an outdoor concert in the pergola on Tuesday, July 25, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
