ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Real G. Mathieu, 77, of St. Petersburg, Fla., formerly of Lewiston, died April 28, 2017, at Bayfront Medical Center.

Real was born to Gerard and Simone Mathieu of Lewiston on Jan. 15, 1940. He was educated at St. Peter’s and St. Dominic’s High School, where he graduated in 1958.

He was well known for his wonderful musical ability in Maine and in Florida. He taught music in Ogunquit as well as performed at the Ogunquit Playhouse. In Florida, he played music in church and taught and ran his own private music school.

Real was known not only for his strong passion for music but also for being quite the jokester. He brought laughter and smiles to all who knew him.

Real is survived by his brother, Guy Mathieu and his wife, Patricia, of Madawaska; his longtime friend, Scott Cleere of Florida; special niece and godchild, Brenda; niece, Sue; nephews, Guy and John; great-nieces, Lori, Deidre and Alissa; great-nephews, Kirk, Lucas, Jonathon and Kaden; and great-grandnephew, William. He also leaves behind many of his students, relatives, friends and neighbors.
