NORWAY — The Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine announces its August calendar.

All programs offered by the center are free to anyone impacted by cancer and caregivers. New visitors are welcome to stop by for information and to join in one or all of the activities.

The center is in the Stephens Memorial Hospital Specialty Clinic building at 199 Main St. The center will be closed for a long Labor Day weekend, Thursday, Aug. 31, and Friday, Sept. 1.

Drop-in hours are every Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Volunteers are available to provide comfort items such as port protectors, wigs, hats, pillows or to look for resources. They have many pamphlets and a lending library.

The center is also a place to have a cup of coffee or tea, chat with a volunteer or  participate in scheduled activities. Activities such as coloring, knitting or games are available at all times.

Banding Together to Restore: 10 to 11 a.m. Thursdays, Aug. 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31, at Richard Bader Physical Therapy, 176 Main St. The program, led by Lori Britting, is focused on regaining motion and strength through guided instruction using stretching and colored Therabands. Each participant will be encouraged to work within their abilities that will safely gain their desired goals. Getting back energy and the ability to move easier and carry out daily tasks and enjoying life are part of the program. Yoga Warriors: 3 to 3:45 p.m.Wednesday, Aug. 23, at Posabilities, 15 Tannery St. This free gentle yoga class will support healthy living for individuals facing the challenges of cancer through gentle movement and breath, supportive restorative yoga postures, and guided mediation and relaxation. Preregistration is encouraged at 207-890-0329 or register day of class by arriving 15 minutes early.

Yoga for Wellness: 8 to 9 a.m. Wednesdays. Either Kat Larsen or Sherri will teach the class, which will include breathing, movement and relaxing meditation while seated or standing. Check the website for more information.

Chair Yoga: 2 to 3 p.m. Fridays. Sherri leads the class in chair yoga. No mats are necessary, chairs are provided.

Reiki Introduction: 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11. Charlotte LaBelle of Teresia Reiki will demonstrate how Reiki helps to alleviate stress and promote relaxation.

Stampin’ Up: 2 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1. Kathy provides materials and instruction to make a variety of cards.

Knitting and Crocheting: 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays. Learn to knit or crochet, bring in project or help make hats for clients.

Coloring for Adults: 2 to 3 p.m. Thursdays. Coloring books and a variety of markers are available.

Cards and Games: 1 to 2 p.m. Fridays. Games are available or participants may bring theirs.

Walk and Talk with David: David will share his favorite walking routes. He may be contacted at 207-739-7027 to schedule a time.
