PHILLIPS – A Canaan woman was injured Thursday morning when the mini-van style vehicle she was driving was involved in a near head-on, three-vehicle collision in a road construction zone on Route 4, near the Phillips Elementary School.
A pickup truck driven by Bruce Wilcox, 83, of Phillips was traveling south in the construction zone at about 8:17 am. and failed to return to his lane as instructed by a flagger, striking two vehicles heading in the opposite direction, according to Franklin County Deputy Brad Scovil.
The first vehicle struck was driven by Lillian Harvey, 61, of Canaan. The second vehicle struck was a pickup truck driven by Christopher Davidson, 32, of Thomaston.
Harvey was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries by a NorthStar EMS ambulance, Scovil said.
Davidson and three family members in his vehicle were not injured.
Chief Deputy Steven Lowell said the two vehicles heading north were struck on the front-quarter.
Both Wilcox’s and Harvey’s vehicles were towed from the scene, he said.
Scovil was assisted by sheriff’s Sgt. Nathan Bean, Phillips Fire Department and NorthStar at the scene.
“The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind traveling motorists to slow down and use caution while traveling in construction zones,” Scovil said.
