PORTLAND — Sea Dogs outfielder Jeremy Barfield has been chosen as the Eastern League Player of the Month for July, the league announced Friday.

Barfield batted .336 (17-for-110) with 12 home runs, 33 RBIs and 26 runs in July. He had a .422 on-base percentage and a .709 slugging percentage.

His homers, RBIs and total bases (78) are the most in any month in franchise history.

Barfield, who is the son of former MLB All-Star Jesse Barfield, was signed by the Red Sox from the Sugar Land Skeeters of the Atlantic League in May. In 64 games with the Sea Dogs, he is hitting .306 with 19 homers and 51 RBIs. Combined with his 24 games at Sugar Land, he has 28 homers and 72 RBIs this season.

He is the first Sea Dogs player to earn the Eastern League Player of the Month since Sean Coyle in June 2014.
