SAN ANTONIO, TX — Sandra Evelyn LaBrie, 66, of 254 Allensworth, Apt. W., San Antonio, Texas, died Wednesday, July 5, at Memorial Medical Nursing Center in San Antonio after she suffered a series of devastating blows to her health.

She was born April 14, 1951, to Erland and Evelyn (Woodman) Tucker and spent her childhood on Oak Hill Road in East Auburn. She graduated from Edward Little High School in 1969. She married Robert A. LaBrie Jr. on Jan. 23, 1971.

She loved and nurtured two children, Robert and Michele LaBrie. Following her son’s graduation and the retirement of her husband from the USAF, she returned to Maine briefly in 1995 and then rejoined her children in San Antonio.

In 1997, she lost her son to cancer. She remained in San Antonio with her daughter and worked for many years at the Hallmark gift shop off Babcock Road. In her 50s, she decided to return to school to become a medical assistant, but her career was cut short by a heart attack. On Jan. 21, 2009, her only grandchild, Robert Wilke-LaBrie, was born. She opted to retire early to care for her grandson while her daughter worked.

Sandra was a wonderful, caring mother and friend. She would bake fantastic desserts which she would share with the employees at Michele’s job each week. She loved being creative and enjoyed doing many different types of crafts like cross stitch, needlepoint, painting and sewing. She made her daughter handsewn dolls and her son puppets, pillows and blankets. She loved to read and was especially fond of Stephen King novels. Sandra was also a great lover of animals; she adopted many pets throughout the years. She looked forward to visiting her dad, Erland Tucker, and her stepmother, Esther Tucker, each year on Tripp Lake. She would spend a week enjoying the beautiful Maine weather and visiting her favorite places.

Sandra possessed a heart of gold. She was a loving mother, grandmother, family member, and friend. For the past eight years, Sandra has supported her daughter by tirelessly caring for her grandson, a special needs child who is now 8 years old and a high achiever. She has been a selfless, loyal best friend to Brigitte Chavana and to her roommate, Nancy Blythe. Her loss has been a terrible blow to her cherished friends and to her heartbroken family.

Sandra was preceded in death by her beloved grandmothers, Bertha Tucker and Mary Woodman, her Uncle Russell Woodman; father and mother Erland and Evelyn Tucker; her son, Robert A. LaBrie III; her sister, Shirley Tucker; her Aunt Catherine Pratt, Aunt Connie Hicks and Uncle James Tucker.

She is survived by her stepmother, Esther Tucker, her daughter, Michele LaBrie and grandson Robert D. Wilke-LaBrie; her former husband, Robert A. LaBrie Jr; her uncle, Morris Tucker; her brother, Gordon Tucker and his wife, Delia, and their two sons, Ed and Jason Tucker; her great-nephews, Logan and Mason; and her great-niece, Madison, and many close cousins.
