AVON — Six people were injured Saturday morning when a car driven by a Livermore Falls man went out of control on Route 4 and collided with an oncoming SUV hauling a boat on a trailer, according Maine State Police.

Trooper Eric Bronson responded to an accident at about 10:30 a.m. involving a 2002 Mercury Sable that had been reported to be traveling at a “high rate of speed,” Trooper Rick Moody said in an email Monday. 

The car driven by Kenneth Lowell, 22, of Livermore Falls, was heading south on the road, went sideways while in a turn and struck an oncoming SUV driven by William Bythrow, 48, of Raynham, Massachusetts, he said.

Lowell received injuries to his head and Bythrow and his passengers, Coletta Bythrow, 44, William Bythrow, 10, and Connor Bythrow, 8, “all received possible injuries from the impact,” Moody said.

They were all treated and released from  Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, a FMH spokeswoman said.

Lowell was issued a summons on a criminal charge of driving to endanger and was also issued a summons for traffic violations of failing to maintain control of motor vehicle and operating left of center while at the hospital, Moody said.

NorthStar EMS ambulance crews responded to render aid to those involved in the crash.

Bronson was assisted at the scene by Trooper Randy Hall, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and Phillips Fire Department.

Lowell’s 2002 Mercury Sable and Bythrow’s 2014 Ford Explorer and the trailer and boat it was hauling were destroyed in the accident, Moody said.
